My background and experience

I am an independent user researcher and usability consultant operating UsabilityWorks in San Francisco, CA. I have been doing usability, user interface design, and technical communications consulting and development since 1982. I began my career as a technical writer and research assistant at the Document Design Center in Washington, D.C. in 1983. With that wonderful learning and consulting experience, I went to IBM in Sweden, then to a services company in San Jose, California, and finally started my own consulting practice in San Francisco – with a short, enriching, and enlightening tenure with Tec-Ed (1999-2000) before going back out on my own again.
